Champaign - Local leaders held a press conference on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 at the Alma Mater Plaza on the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign Campus to officially announce the launch of the MCORE (Multimodal Corridor Enhancement) Project (www.mcoreproject.com). Funded in part by a $15.7 million Federal TIGER grant from the United States Department of Transportation, MCORE, is a partnership between the City of Champaign, City of Urbana, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and the Champaign Urbana Mass Transit District (MTD) to improve mobility in the communities’ core.
This $35 million overall project will have a transformative impact unlike any previous transportation project in the communities’ history. This exciting new project will bring streets to a state of good repair while enhancing connections between the Cities’ downtown centers and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign campus.
