On Monday, March 5 work will begin on the 2018 phases of the MCORE Project including:

• Construction on Third St. - north and south of Green St.
• Green St. will remain open to vehicular traffic, however work will occur on the sidewalks on Green St. between Second St. and Third St.
• Landscaping and other miscellaneous work will occur along Green St. between Neil St. and Second St.
• Construction will also begin at the intersection of White Street and Fourth Street. There will be a closure of the east half of the intersection, allowing for only one-way traffic southbound.  After the east half is complete, construction will occur on the west half.

Upcoming work scheduled to begin May 14 (after Commencement). More details will follow:

• Construction on Green St. from Third St. to Fourth St.
• Construction on Wright St. from White St. to Springfield Ave.

On Friday, December 15, 2017 (by 3:30 p.m.), the Multimodal Corridor Enhancement Project (MCORE) will reopen Green Street between Neil Street and Fourth Street. Some construction activities will occur over the winter and into 2018 as temperatures allow. This work includes: street lighting; streetscape items such as pavers in parkway, bike loops, and landscaping; and permanent pavement markings. Some of this work may require lane closures, however two-way traffic will be maintained. This will allow access on Green Street from Neil Street to Lincoln Avenue

On Wednesday, December 20, 2017 Duce Construction will CLOSE Green Street at the railroad viaduct, in order to install the gateway signage at the viaduct. This closure will begin at 7:00a.m. and the street will reopen by 12:00p.m. 
Businesses are open during construction and access to properties will be maintained via alternative routes.

GREEN STREET ROAD CLOSURE
(BETWEEN NEIL STREET AND RAILROAD TRACKS)

On Wednesday, September 20, the Multimodal Corridor Enhancement Project (MCORE) will close Green Street between Neil Street and the Canadian National Railroad tracks.  Access to properties and businesses between Neil Street and the railroad viaduct, including those along Chestnut Street, will be available using driveway and alley accesses along Neil Street.

Businesses are open during construction and access to properties will be maintained via alternative routes.  A map depicting general timing of the project phases is available on the City of Champaign’s website.

On July 6, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) informed the Multimodal Corridor Enhancement Project (MCORE) partner agencies that the recent State of Illinois budget approval provided appropriations for work to resume on “state-let” projects. MCORE is a “state-let” project because the federal TIGER grant funding is directed to IDOT, who then becomes the contracting agency on behalf of the MCORE partner agencies.
 
Dave Clark, Champaign’s City Engineer, states, “We are pleased that a resolution has been reached in the legislature. Our contractor is eager to resume work on this important project for our communities.”
 
Below is a current schedule for construction activities:
• Friday, July 7, Duce Construction is mobilizing equipment and resources back to Green Street. Green Street between Wright St. and Goodwin Ave. remains closed.
• Saturday, July 8, Duce Construction will reestablish work zone traffic control and close Green Street to all traffic between Locust St. and the Canadian National Railroad viaduct. Green Street will also be closed to all traffic between First St. and Second St.
• Monday, July 10, Duce Construction will resume construction activities in full capacity on Project 1 (Green Street, Urbana) and Project 2 (Green Street, Champaign).
 
All businesses remain open during the construction.  The City of Champaign, City of Urbana, Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and Duce Construction collectively express their appreciation for the cooperation and patience of property owners, residents, and visitors of the Campustown area during this important project.
