On Monday, March 4, the Multimodal Corridor Enhancement Project (MCORE) gets underway with Project 4. The first working area/closures are Armory Avenue between Sixth and Fourth, and sidewalk areas along Armory. The full project corridor includes Armory Avenue, (between Fourth Street and Wright Street) and Wright Street (between Armory Avenue and Springfield Avenue). This phase of the project will include reconstruction of the existing pavement, sidewalks, pavement markings, and replacement of the storm and sanitary sewers. The project will occur in phases, over two construction seasons, with a final completion date of December 2020. Upcoming information will be shared about construction activities that will affect additional closures to occur after University of Illinois Commencement.
The City of Champaign appreciates the cooperation and patience of property owners, residents, and visitors of the Campustown area during this important project. Additional updates will be provided as the project progresses. Below is a general map of the corridor.
Here’s a fun Bike Box Rap video one of the MTD summer interns worked on in regards to the Bike Boxes.
The north half of Green Street from Goodwin Avenue to Lincoln Avenue will be closed to westbound traffic starting 7:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 6, 2018, until further notice. Westbound Green Street traffic will use a marked detour route via Springfield Avenue. Eastbound Green Street traffic will use the south half of the street. Northbound and southbound traffic will be maintained at all times at the Goodwin Avenue, and Lincoln Avenue, intersections with Green Street. If possible, through traffic is encouraged to use University Avenue or Florida Avenue instead of using Green Street during construction. Periodic lane closures on Lincoln Avenue north and south of Green Street and on Lincoln Avenue east of Lincoln Avenue to Busey Avenue may also occur during this time period. The sidewalks on the south side of Green Street from Goodwin Avenue to Lincoln Avenue will remain open to pedestrians. Pedestrian access for the CUMTD bus stop system will be available at bus stops provided on Springfield Avenue and Goodwin Avenue in the vicinity of the project. CUMTD buses will not be using Green Street from Goodwin Avenue to Lincoln Avenue at this time. We appreciate the patience and cooperation of the public during construction of this project.
