On Tuesday, July 7, the Multimodal Corridor Enhancement Project (MCORE) will begin reconstructing the northwest quadrant of the intersection of Wright Street and Green Street.  Starting July 7, the intersection of Wright Street and Green Street will be closed to westbound through traffic to allow for the reconstruction of pavement in the intersection. Westbound Green Street traffic will be diverted north onto Wright Street and up to Springfield Avenue.

During this phase of construction, it is highly recommended that vehicles traveling westbound through campus seek alternate routes across Wright Street. The work will take several weeks to complete.

The City of Champaign appreciates the cooperation and patience of property owners, residents, and visitors of the Campustown area during this important project.

Temporary Closure of Wright Street & Green Street Intersection

3/27/2020

On Wednesday, April 1, 2020, the Multimodal Corridor Enhancement Project (MCORE) will begin reconstructing the intersection of Wright Street and Green Street, weather permitting.

Starting April 1, 2020 the intersection of Wright Street and Green Street will be closed to east-west through traffic to allow for the reconstruction of the pavement within the intersection. The alternate route for Green Street traffic traveling across Wright Street is to use Goodwin Avenue and Fourth Street to either Springfield Avenue or University Avenue.

Some key pieces of information related to vehicle and pedestrian access at the intersection during this phase of the work are highlighted below:

· Wright Street will be one-way SB between Green and John Streets.

· EB traffic on Green Street will be required to turn either NB or SB onto Wright Street.

· Pedestrian access will be maintained across Wright Street on either the north or south side of the intersection. In the interest of pedestrian safety, which side will change depending on the construction activities taking place.

During this phase of construction, it is highly recommended that vehicles seek alternate routes when traveling through this area of campus. Access to businesses will be maintained during the construction. The work will take several weeks to complete.

The City of Champaign appreciates the cooperation and patience of property owners, residents, and visitors of the Campustown area during this important project. Additional updates will be provided as the project progresses.
